About Us

Established in 1965, the Department of Land Economy (DoLE) is the foremost and leading centre for teaching and research in land economy in Ghana and the West African region. Land Economy, as a subject, considers the role and use of land, real estate and environment within an economy. It applies particularly the disciplines of economics, law and planning for the analysis of the governance of land use, urban areas and interactions with other environmental resources.

We offer a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses, all of which are accredited by the national Accreditation Board and the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS). We have two four-year undergraduate courses and two one-year postgraduate programmes that offers both instructional and research-based MSc, as well as a four-year PhD. Research within the Department falls into one of our three research groups, namely Real Estate and Housing, Estates and Facilities Management, and Land Use and Governance. Our programmes are held in high regard by leading employers.

Within the broad mission of KNUST, DoLE exists to advance knowledge in Land Governance, Real Estate and Management of Facilities through creating an enabling environment for undertaking research, quality teaching, entrepreneurship training and community engagement to improve the quality of life.
