Community Service

The Department's staff provided services to the community in diverse ways during the year under review. At the instance of the Vice-Chancellor, the Department undertook two assignments for the University Council. First was an assessment of the compensable value to the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), following refurbishment works on the UMaT Guest House on campus. Secondly, the Department carried out a feasibility study on the old KNUST Guest House on 7th Avenue in Accra, for redevelopment into an office/banking complex. Individually, staff continued to be of service to the local, national and international communities in many ways. Dr. John Bugri continued to serve as the representative of the
College of Architecture and Planning on the Students' Financial Services Management Board, representative of the Department on the Valuation and Estate Surveying Division and Governing Council of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors and member of the Land Sector Technical Committee (LSTC) of the Ghana Land Administration Project. Dr. Daniel Hammond continued his role as external examiner to the Estate Management

Department of the Kumasi Polytechnic, while Mr. Anthony Gambrah still served as Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Branch of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors. Mr Mark Adolwine also continued to be of service to the University in the capacity of Senior Hall Tutor, Unity Hall and member of Faculty and College Boards. In the case of Mr. Eric Tudzi, training of student leaders and provision of career guidance and counselling to students through GHAFES and membership of KNUST Branch of KNUST Alumni Association at the executive level engaged his attention. Dr. Callistus Mahama continued his role as Fellow of Independence Hall and Patron of the KNUST Branch of the Northern Students Union, while Mr. Jonathan Ayitey, continued as member of the Senior Members Housing Committee, representative of College of Architecture and Planning on College of Science Board, Fellow of University Hall, member of the Property and Legal Committee of Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, Ghana and also became the Examinations Officer, College of Architecture and Planning. Mr. James Frimpong-Asante represented the College of Architecture and Planning on the Ghana @ 50 Exhibitions on the theme: Contribution of Science and Technology to National Development organized by the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences between 19th-28th October, 2007 in Accra. He continues to provide free consultancy services to the Kings Village Project, a complex of a malnutrition centre, hospital and schools for the deprived at Bontanga in the Tolon- Kumbungu district of the Northern Region.
